About Dare County Schools
Dare County Schools is located in Northeastern North Carolina and includes many small communities along approximately 110 miles of shoreline known as the Outer Banks. The area is a popular resort and vacation attraction and during the summer season over 300,000 weekly tourists visit. Dare County is home to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Wright Brothers National Monument, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Jockey's Ridge State Park, Elizabeth II State Historic Site, Roanoke Island Festival Park, North Carolina Aquarium and the Nags Head Woods Nature Preserve.

Beginning teachers in Dare participate in ongoing support sessions provided by the district. Beginning teachers also receive coaching support at their school from skilled, veteran instructional coaches as well as their assigned mentor. Our district offers a strong mentoring program with one-on-one mentors provided for all initially licensed teachers for the first three years of teaching.

Dare County Schools provides a competitive local salary supplement (up to $5,000 per year) based on experience and degrees earned. Salary is based on the NC Public Schools’ Salary Schedule with a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health/hospitalization and life insurance. Teachers have the opportunity to earn 12% annual stipend by obtaining National Board Certification.

Dare County Schools is the only district in the state to offer Spanish Dual Language Immersion as an option at all elementary schools. Middle and high school students have the opportunity to take advanced courses that can put them on track to earn an associate’s degree from the community college while completing high school graduation requirements. Internships are offered at the high school level, which provide students the opportunity to explore career options firsthand.
