Dare County Schools is located in Northeastern North Carolina and includes many small communities along approximately 110 miles of shoreline known as the Outer Banks. The area is a popular resort and vacation attraction and during the summer season over 300,000 weekly tourists visit. Dare County is home to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Wright Brothers National Monument, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Jockey's Ridge State Park, Elizabeth II State Historic Site, Roanoke Island Festival Park, North Carolina Aquarium and the Nags Head Woods Nature Preserve.
Our 11 schools serve more than 5200 students living in three very distinct areas within the county—the beach area, Manteo and Cape Hatteras.
