FernLeaf Community Charter School’s mission and vision is to foster a rich learning environment that embodies the essence of community, understanding, and the human spirit. Grounded in humble respect for our surroundings, the individual, and the world as a whole, we seek to engage the unique passions and aptitudes of our school community so that, in addition to achieving academic fluency, students become thoughtful, compassionate and engaged. The 26-acre FernLeaf Campus is located across from Fletcher Park.

We move beyond traditional classroom-based instruction by employing a rich and varied project-based experiential learning model that brings the curriculum to life for students, teachers, and the community. In this setting, learning is relevant, meaningful, and engaging. Students participate in a variety of environments in which they learn content and receive instruction in formats tailored to their unique and individual needs. This approach facilitates true academic fluency where students not only acquire knowledge but are able to apply it in real-world situations through project work.

FernLeaf balances and integrates traditional core academic subjects with social-emotional learning, stewardship, the arts, entrepreneurship and comprehensive health and wellness. Through access to a wide variety of subject matter and opportunities for success in a broad set of disciplines, FernLeaf students can discover their unique passions and aptitudes and develop the wide range of skills and knowledge needed for a successful future.

From our incredible calendar to our noon dismissal every Friday, we are intentional in our school design to make sure our staff feels supported.

Our staff enjoys a noon dismissal every Friday for collaborative planning, staff meetings and trainings. As part of our holistic culture, we provide healthy snacks Mondays and Fridays with staff wellness initiatives including massage days, healthy lunches, and more. Pay is commensurate with the North Carolina Salary Schedule for Teachers. Teachers can join the state health plan, and are provided 401K benefits that exceed the State Employee’s Retirement System. We also provide life, dental and health insurance options.

We utilize our school educational leaders to serve as mentors who provide academic and behavioral support to beginning teachers. We have also utilized the UNC's New Teacher Support Program to provide support to our beginning teachers.
