“Being a teacher allows you to have a fruitful and fulfilling career anywhere in North Carolina—your hometown, a big city, the mountains, or the coast. We have over 2,500 public schools in North Carolina’s 100 counties, and now we have an easy-to-use platform to learn about becoming a teacher.” - State Superintendent Mark Johnson
Because teachers play such an important role in students’ lives, TeachNC aims to inspire and support future educators on their journey to the classroom. By doing this, we will also strive to elevate the image of the teaching profession, expand and diversify the educator pipeline, and fill persistent certification shortage areas, so that students are prepared to succeed in lifelong learning and work beyond school.
TEACH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, launched by Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Education, and supported by the nation’s top teacher associations.
Fueled by NCDPI and BEST NC
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Board of Education and the Superintendent of Public Instruction. We envision that every public school student will graduate ready for post secondary education and work, prepared to be a globally engaged and productive citizen.
BEST NC is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of business leaders committed to improving North Carolina’s education system through policy and advocacy. We do this by convening a broad constituency; encouraging collaboration around a shared, bold vision for education; and advocating for policies, research, programs and awareness that will significantly improve education in North Carolina.
"As business leaders, we know that the talent in our organizations is key to our success. The same is true for education in North Carolina; our teachers and other educators need to be recruited and valued like other high-skills professionals. TeachNC will empower teacher candidates with the information they need to enter the teaching profession and thrive as a teacher." — BEST NC Board Chair, Walter McDowell
BEST NC envisions a North Carolina in which every student graduates with the knowledge, skills and behaviors to succeed in a competitive global economy. Our mission is to unite an engaged and informed business perspective to build consensus toward dramatically transforming and improving education in North Carolina.
