For the motorsports fan, Cabarrus County is heaven - the home of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. As one of the fastest-growing counties in the state, we are also home to Cabarrus County Schools and serve approximately 33,000 students in 43 schools. Our way of life has the best of all worlds – 15 minutes from Charlotte and its arts and universities, but in a smaller, more personal community with less traffic. A strong community supports our schools and the professional sports teams a short drive away!
Cabarrus County Schools provide teacher support services that begin with 3 days of new teacher orientation in the summer; individually assigned mentors for years 1-3 with a lead mentor in every building. Our Professional Learning Communities allow for collaboration, growth and support and we have a teacher leadership cohort. We have a full complement of licensed and professional support, allowing teachers to teach. We host free staff development opportunities and have an extensive teacher benefits package.
AVID, offered at our middle and high schools, is a program that targets students in the "academic middle" who typically would be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families. The intent is to prepare these students for college by ensuring they enroll in rigorous college preparatory classes. The AVID elective class provides support, academic monitoring, and tutoring. Writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading, along with tutorials and study skills are the core strategies introduced to students in the AVID elective class.
