Chatham County Schools (CCS) has 19 schools. A new elementary school opened during the 2020 – 2021 school year and a new high school will open during the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Chatham County provides many opportunities for professional development from the school, district, state, and national levels. We offer a Dual Language program in two of our districts. This also includes a school that is an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Demonstration School. This is a national program that started in our high schools and has now moved down to our middle and elementary schools.
For new teachers coming into the school system, we have the Beginning Teacher Program and we also partner with the New Teacher Support Program through UNC Chapel Hill to provide additional support for our new teachers. Teachers are provided several opportunities to become leaders in the school and the district.
Chatham County is a technology-rich district that provides teachers, staff, and students with electronic devices throughout the year. We also offer virtual learning opportunities for our students as well. The Virtual Academy is set to open in August.
Chatham County also has great partnerships with different organizations in the community. Community in Schools of Chatham County is one such organization that has programs based in an elementary school, middle school, and a K-8 school. Chatham Park is a new development in Chatham County that will bring more population growth to our area.
