I started teaching in Hickory Public Schools right out of college. As an educator in this district, I have been given many opportunities to grow professionally through curriculum conferences, professional development, and in my assigned school. As a young teacher, I have been able to present at conferences, lead other teachers, and participate in school improvement decisions. The greatest feeling is knowing that I am part of a family that truly works together to bring success to all students.

Why I Teach

The love and passion for teaching was kindled in my heart as a young girl. I never wondered what I would be when I grew up, I always knew I was going to be a teacher. There were many teachers in my life who inspired me to become the best teacher I could be. In watching the teachers in my life, I see there is a common thread of what inspires me and teachers all around us - that would be our students. Every day I wake up knowing that my students are eagerly waiting to glean knowledge that will build and grow the rest of their lives. I feel empowered to teach because I know that what I instill in my students will not stop at my classroom door. When they leave to go out in the world, they will carry that knowledge with them throughout the rest of their lives. My students are the ultimate reason I am inspired to show up to work every day because I am building future leaders.
