  • For Teachers

Hickory is ideally locatedclose to the Blue Ridge Parkway and mountains and just an hour drive to Asheville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Boone. Hickory was recognized in 2018 by National Geographic Travel as one of the "Best Small Cities" in America.

We are a small school district, composed of nine schools, including one primary school serving pre-K-2, four elementary schools, two middle school for grades 6-8, a high school and a creative arts magnet high school

Our team members are passionate about education and work hand-in-hand to provide an environment of collaboration, innovation and inspiration. HPS is one of the region’s best school districts because of the dedication and hard work of the entire Hickory community. We are proud of our cultural diversity representing more than 30 languages spoken in the homes of our students. Our success is truly the product of teamwork. We work as partners, encourage one another, celebrate great accomplishments and lead innovative initiatives designed for students' success.
