Union County Public Schools

Union County Public Schools is the sixth largest public school system in North Carolina. We serve approximately 41,500 students at 53 schools and have approximately 5,000 staff members. According to the most recent data released by the NC Department of Public Instruction, 90% of our schools earned a school performance grade of C or higher. Seventeen schools received an A, which is an all-time high for us! Additionally, 23 schools or 45% of schools exceeded growth—the highest number of schools to exceed growth in the last five years. Union County Public Schools has a 2019-2020 four-year graduation rate of 93%. The Class of 2020 earned more than $90 million in scholarships. We offer a wide variety of coursework to our students, ranging from 20 dual-language programs to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and sustainability/agriculture programs. Students also have access to a variety of academic options, including the Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts, the International Baccalaureate Program at Marvin Ridge High, Union County Early College, Central Academy of Technology and Arts, Health Sciences Academy at Monroe Middle, and the AgTech Academy at East Union Middle. Additionally, the districtwide Career Readiness department offers more than 20 career academy pathways in programs that include aerospace, welding and engineering, culinary arts, pharmacy tech and more. With a long-term goal of ensuring all students are equipped to succeed in college, career, and life, we are committed and dedicated to offering quality instruction for all children in support of our mission of “Preparing All Students to Succeed.”

Some of our high schools have Teacher Cadet Clubs. We are currently in the process of creating a Teacher Academy with a local university.
