• Teacher candidates are admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
• Candidates begin taking content methods courses.

• Candidates begin advanced fieldwork in content area settings applying the tasks of planning, teaching and assessment, including videotaping and teaching analysis.
• Candidates are admitted to Student Teaching
• Candidates complete advanced fieldwork in fall and continue student teaching or clinical practicum the following semester.

All candidates have extensive hands-on experience in collaboratively designed coursework, participatory assignment, extensive fieldwork and clinical opportunities, and in student teaching or clinical practicum.

All candidates engage in specific classes and fieldwork that address special needs and a range of learning differences. In preparing lessons, candidates are directed to incorporate instruction designed to meet the needs of all learners. Candidates reflect on their attitudes and growth in meeting students' varied learning needs.

Fieldwork, student teacher and clinical practicum candidates are placed with clinical educators and clinical mentors who provide candidates with coaching, team teaching and reflective feedback. Faculty supervisors also serve as mentors and coaches for candidates in all clinical settings. Candidates engage in peer mentoring and coaching opportunities during the student teaching/clinical practicum seminar as they provide each other with guidance on their portfolio artifacts.

The teacher education program engages in continuous assessment to improve all aspects of the program. We have recently adopted and implemented the planning, teaching and assessment tasks embedded in edTPA. Faculty have participated in the local evaluation process and fine-tuned specific educational assessment courses and fieldwork assignments. The program conducts annual surveys of current candidates, program completers, clinical educators, supervisors and principals to collect data for continuous improvement. Additionally, we analyze our programs in alignment with state and local initiatives.
