The Teacher Education Program undergraduate daytime program provides an integrated academic experience of quality educational programs, a supportive learning environment, and individual growth opportunities that promote the total development of teacher education candidates. Education majors participate in field experiences, which provide students with a structured learning experience. 

Under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed and experienced teacher, students enter the K-12 classroom beginning in the freshman year and continuing each term until their senior internship. The field experience includes observations in classrooms, one-on-one and small group tutoring, service as an instructional assistant and co-teaching opportunities.

For adult students who plan to complete coursework 100% online, UMO offers the Teacher Education – Licensure and Residency programs.  The Residency license is designed for candidates who have already earned an undergraduate degree and have been hired by a school system in NC to fill a teaching position and need licensure for employment. The Licensure is for candidates who have already earned an undergraduate degree and now wish to obtain a license to teach in NC.
