Thayer School of Education prepares our students to face the challenges of 21st-century education, whether they’re planning a career in the classroom or in a complementary role in education. The School of Education shapes the next generation of education specialists by providing a comprehensive and hands-on experiential approach as outlined in our Conceptual Framework. This conceptual framework is consistent with the mission of Wingate University and with the motto of “Faith, Knowledge, Service.”

Grants, Stipends & Scholarships
Approximately 98 percent of our undergraduate students receive some form of academic scholarship during the admissions process. The majority of students pay between $10,000 and $20,000 per year for tuition and room-and-board. Most commuters pay between $2,000 and $9,800.
Student Loans & Payroll Deduction
Students may use Federal Financial Aid options, if they qualify. Wingate offers interest-free monthly payment plans. North Carolina Forgivable Education Loans for Service are available for students who qualify.
Loan Forgiveness
Loan forgiveness is available for graduates who qualify.

Program Semesters/Steps Overview
Year 1
Students take university foundations courses, prerequisite courses and introductory education courses.
Year 2
During the second year, students apply for admission to the School of Education. They continue taking university foundations courses, prerequisite courses and general education courses.
Year 3
During the third year, students take content and specialty area education courses.
Year 4
During the fourth year, students complete content and specialty area eduction courses. They also complete a 16-week student teaching experience.
Program Hallmarks
Students have numerous opportunities for field-based experiences throughout the Wingate University teacher education program. The sequence of field-based experiences allows transition from general to specialized knowledge and from short-term observational, tutorial and small-group settings to a semester of full-time student teaching.
Students at Wingate University complete coursework focused on multicultural education and meeting the needs of exceptional children. Through field experiences they have opportunities to work with professional educators to learn techniques and strategies for working with diverse learners.
Each student is assigned an academic advisor who works within the School of Education. Advisors support students throughout the program to ensure students stay on track. They are available whenever students have questions, concerns, or needs. Additionally, they help connect students to other resources on campus. Professors are readily available to support students with field experiences and assignments. Additionally, each student is assigned a university supervisor and clinical educator to support and guide them while they student teach.
The Wingate University School of Education faculty and staff review student learning and program goals annually to ensure that our programs are providing the preparation our students need to successfully enter the education profession. We partner with local school districts to ensure that our students have quality experiences in both the university classroom and in K – 12 classrooms. Our Teacher Education Committee consists of stakeholders from all aspects of the professional educator community. Members of this committee continuously monitor and review our programs.
