    Edenton-Chowan Schools is a progressive school district with a population of approximately 2,000 students and 180 teachers, including counselors and instructional support staff. The school district is located in northeastern North Carolina and is approximately a 90 minute drive from the Tidewater Virginia area, the Outer Banks, and the growing medical community and expanding business and industries of Greenville, North Carolina.

    The district has received both state and national recognition for its programs and successes. Edenton-Chowan Schools is ranked among the top school systems in North Carolina for percentage of teachers with "National Board for Professional Teaching Standards" certification. Approximately 25 percent of our teachers hold a master’s degree (or higher). All schools are accredited by the State of North Carolina and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our intermediate school was just honored as Title I Distinguished School of High Progress for 2019 and will represent North Carolina in national competition. Our high school has a graduation rate over 90 percent. Our primary and middle schools meet state expectations for student growth.

  • Salary, Compensation & Benefits

    Edenton Chowan Schools provides a salary supplement of three percent of the base salary for each certified teacher.

  • Support For New Teachers

    In addition to the regular mentor support and monthly support meetings, we provide an additional teacher leader at each school. We also collaborate with NCSU for the NC New Teacher Support Program, NCSU Region. He meets with staff who may need extra support on a weekly basis.

  • For Students

    Our high school currently offers Early Childhood I and II for students through a CTE pathway. Students also have internship opportunities at our primary school. Completion of these courses and required testing allow students to be LEAD-certified when they graduate high school.
