Guilford County Schools (GCS) is the third-largest school district in North Carolina, serving more than 70,000 students across 126 schools in urban, suburban and rural areas. We welcome, nurture and thrive on our diversity. In Guilford, you can teach in the city, suburbs or country, while taking a short drive to the mountains or the beach!
We have diverse teaching opportunities that include traditional core courses such as Elementary, English, Math, Science and Social Studies as well as a variety of other programs, such as Culinary Arts, Drone Technology, Transportation Management, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to performing or visual arts, advanced academics, Spanish immersion, Montessori, health sciences and aviation.
The diversity in teaching locations and course offerings is exceeded only by the diversity of our students and staff. We have a rich and beautiful blend of cultures and ethnicities among both students and staff. There are more than 124 languages/dialects represented in our district. We enjoy celebrating our differences while deeply appreciating our similarities.
Our teachers enjoy the wealth of professional development opportunities that are available to them in Guilford County. Professional development is tailored to meet the needs of our students and staff. Our employees also benefit from being in a very active and supportive community. In addition to the state salary that is offered across North Carolina, Guilford County has one of the highest supplements in the state—that means you get paid more than you would in most other school districts in North Carolina. Moreover, we offer great incentive programs for select schools. You could earn an additional $3,000 recruitment bonus, $5,000 performance bonus or you could even earn up to $20,000 beyond your regular salary based on student performance. We have so many opportunities for you to earn more money and build your leadership capacity all while still actively serving as a classroom teacher. You don't have to leave the classroom to be a leader in our district. We have something for everyone!
The best teachers for Guilford County may come from all over, but we know our students have an advantage like no other! Students may participate in Future Teachers of American organizations while in middle and high school, and the Teacher Cadet program when they are in high school. Because our students are so great and because teaching provides an opportunity for our own students to help us further grow and build our community, we partner with local colleges and universities to help students realize their dreams of becoming a teacher. There are scholarship opportunities, and even opportunities for earning a MAT for free!
