Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) was formed in 1963 with the merger of the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County school systems. It is the fourth-largest system in North Carolina and the 81st largest in the nation.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools serves about 52,000 students with the goal of providing a quality education for each child. The school system has 43 elementary schools, 14 middle schools and 15 high schools. Nine special schools bring the systemwide total to 80 + schools.
WS/FCS serves a diverse student body, offers eight world languages programs, and has seven dual language immersion programs. WS/FCS provides a supportive, welcoming environment to all of our students, teachers, and staff.

Leadership-Teacher Leaders

WS/FCS teachers can qualify to earn up to $12,000 annually by becoming an Expanded Impacted Teacher or Multi Classroom Leaders at one of our Inspire 340 schools. These are great leadership opportunities that can provide you with the skills and experience needed to take your career to the next level.
WS/FCS has also partnered with High Point University to provide scholarships and career support to high potential teachers who want a degree and license in school administration.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is also pleased to be a recipient of the 2021 Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program grant. The grant, which totals $13,492,114 over three years, will center on building and expanding an equitable, highly-effective teacher and school leader pipeline. Highly-effective teachers and school leaders will be eligible for recruitment incentives to serve in high-need schools, and will also be eligible for performance-based compensation based on individual and school-level performance. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will also expand support for educators seeking licensure, and will develop on-demand professional development for teachers and school leaders. Their Teacher Cadet program will also expand, which will allow WC/FCS to reach more high school students interested in pursuing a career in education.
Employee Wellness
In addition to promoting Social Emotional Learning (SEL) for students, WS/FCS is committed to strengthen adult SEL and cultural competence. This includes opportunities for staff to engage in meaningful professional learning to build trust, efficacy, and community. Their Social Emotional and Learning and Benefits teams have partnered to provide employees with breathing access training and access to counselors/therapists in the Employee Action Program. Well-being remains a top priority for WS/FCS and it is an important goal to empower, support, and cultivate emotional resilience to assist staff. They also focus on becoming a trauma informed and restorative community to ensure that this indeed is the best place to learn and work.
