Program Info

The Teacher Education program in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University has a long history of preparing quality educators, as the university was founded to train teachers in the Appalachian area in 1899. Our reputation, as well as our commitment to students and alumni success, contribute to the value of a teaching degree from Appalachian State University. Teacher education students can expect to engage with dedicated faculty who provide rigorous and enriching academic experiences as well as early and frequent field experiences with students in their area of interest. Our undergraduate programs are offered on campus, online, and through off-campus cohorts.

Grants, Stipends, Scholarships

The James Patterson Scholarship is available to first year undergraduate students who are studying education and are committed to teaching careers. The award is $7,500 per year for a maximum of 4 years. Students should apply for this scholarship through the university scholarship application at the time of their admission application. The application deadline is November 15.

The Steve and Judy James Scholarship is available to incoming first year students who plan to pursue a career in teaching in North Carolina. The award is $5,000 each year for 4 years. Students should apply for this scholarship through the university scholarship application at the time of their admission application. The application deadline is November 15.
