Pathway to Practice NC is a 100% online and self-paced subscription-based program. The modules are structured as follows:

• Modules 1-3: The Learner and Learning 
• Module 4: Content Knowledge 
• Modules 5-7 or 8: Instructional Practice
• edTPA Preparation Module

Pathway to Practice candidates are residency teachers who have full time positions. Our candidates use the lesson plans, activities and assessments from their full-time classrooms as their assignments for the modules. They provide commentary, analysis and reflection. They learn from their own teaching and modify their lessons based on the feedback they receive from their facilitators.

Pathway to Practice is designed around state and national teaching standards in which candidates are prepared for teaching students from a variety of backgrounds. The modules prepare candidates to use effective teaching strategies, engage with communities from different linguistic and economic backgrounds, and build on students' existing knowledge and experiences. In addition, the modules prepare teachers to engage students of different learning needs, such as LD, Autism, and ADHD. The Pathway to Practice curriculum requires candidates to apply their learning by modifying and critiquing lesson plans in order to meet these distinct learner strengths and needs.

Each candidate is assigned a facilitator who provides individualized feedback. Facilitators also meet with candidates one-on-one and in groups to discuss questions, concerns and curriculum. Facilitators evaluate candidates based on artifacts which include videos segments, lesson plans, and reflections.

Pathway to Practice has in-person orientation sessions three times a year to support new candidates, who are accepted on a rolling basis. At orientation, you will learn about the program, meet other teachers in your cohort, be introduced to your facilitators, and practice using the online learning platform.

Orientation is a way to kick off your residency program to set you up for success by providing a framework, background, and the resources you will need to make progress. You'll be assigned a facilitator who coaches and evaluates your progress. Pathway to Practice provides support and a $300 voucher for the edTPA. You'll learn about the edTPA requirements through your work in the modules. Pathway to Practice facilitators also hold edTPA sessions that will help you work through the different edTPA tasks. All candidates receive a voucher code, paid for by Pathway to Practice, to submit the edTPA upon completion of the program.
